Oxford Lieder Concert series presents…
A Schubertiade: The Seasons in Song
Songs and piano works by Franz Schubert
Anna Cavaliero soprano
Sholto Kynoch piano
Anna Cavaliero is one of the brightest up-and-coming star sopranos around: a former student of Barbara Bonney, with numerous prizes to her name, and a recent graduate of the prestigious opera studio at the Opéra de Lyon. Fairlight Hall audiences will remember her from a stunning recital in January last year. She once again joins the pianist Sholto Kynoch, Artistic Director of the Oxford Lieder Festival, for a programme of music by the great master of song, Franz Schubert.
Anna and Sholto track the seasons through Schubert’s music: beginning in the joys of harvest time, revelling in the swirling autumn leaves, pausing for a reflective winter evening, and finally bursting forth with all the optimism of spring. Schubert’s sublime music can equally be heard in the works for solo piano – including two of his famous ‘impromptus’ – that punctuate the seasons in song.

Oxford Lieder Festival is the UK’s biggest and most renowned festival of classical song, and the recipient of a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award. As well as presenting many of the world’s greatest musicians in Oxford each October, Oxford Lieder supports the very brightest artists of the new generation both at the Festival and further afield throughout the year. Over the course of the year, Oxford Lieder’s artistic director – the pianist Sholto Kynoch – will introduce exceptional emerging professional singers to Fairlight, in a range of programmes designed to appeal to all and to showcase brilliant young voices and glorious music. Sholto will give a spoken introduction to each programme, and there will be a chance to meet the artists informally over coffee after each of the performances.
